Title Nine Women's Cycling Club

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often does the club ride together?

In the summer, the club will often have up to 4 designated club rides per week (weekends and weekday evenings, generally). In the winter, we usually have one per weekend, weather permitting. All the club rides leave from the Boulder Title Nine store unless otherwise planned. Club members use the Yahoo Group to communicate or organize other ad hoc rides all year 'round.

How fast our your club rides and where do you go?

Club rides vary in intensity, route and duration. In the warmer months, some club rides are designated as hillclimbs, race-pace rides, or beginner rides. Most of the time, route and intensity is determined by group consensus and weather conditions on the day of the ride (especially in the winter!). Communicating your riding goals for the day is encouraged so that everyone finds someone to ride with, even if that means breaking into smaller groups. The general goal of all club rides is to work on group-riding skills. Most club rides probably average 15mph or more depending on the terrain.

How many people go on your club rides?

It varies depending on the time of year, the weather, and what else is going on. Most club rides are between 5 and 20 riders. We try to have several club rides scheduled during the warm months so something fits for everyone's schedule. You can always use the Yahoo Group to hook up with people spontaneously as well.

Can anyone go on your club rides?

No. We are continuously working on our group riding skills, so we limit our club rides to CLUB MEMBERS ONLY for safety purposes. Club members must be wearing a helmet, riding a road bike, and clipless pedals are strongly encouraged.

I'm interested in racing or have done some racing, are there others who race?

Yes. We have two very knowledgable race co-captains who are excited to help and organize those interested in racing. Our race captains organize special rides to work on race-specific skills and have worked very hard to develop a cohesive team approach. We also pick a number of target local races to attend as a team.

I'm not at all interested in racing, are there others like me?

Yes. There are club members who don't race, but enjoy participating in other cycling events. Some club members prefer to ride with the club and cheer for their gal pals from the sidelines.

How old are the club members?

We are a big club with a big range in age and experience! If you are between 18 and "retired," you will fit right in.!

How do I sign up for the club?

Easy! Go to Title Nine at 1801 Pearl Street in Boulder and sign up at the store. Club membership dues are $80 per calendar year and include a jersey! Title Nine takes check, credit card, or cash to sign up for the club. You cannot sign up over the phone or internet. Please see the club page for more complete info on signing up.

I am a complete beginner, just got a road bike, and I'm scared!

No problem! That's what this club is for - to create a healthy learning environment with experienced club members showing the ropes to beginner club members. We will be having dedicated beginner rides come warmer weather - all you need to do is showup with a desire to learn, a bike, and a helmet!

Is there a Denver club?

No. But we do have club members who live in Denver and sometimes organize rides down there.

What if I ride a mountain bike?

Great! Although, you will need to ride a road bike on the road rides. Riding a mountain bike on the road in a group makes it almost impossible to keep up with those skinny tires, unless you are unusually strong. However, there are many women in the group who also mountain bike and we have organized club mountain bike rides in the summer as well.

I do some triathlons, will I fit in?

Yes. There are quite a few club members who also do triathlons. Although triathlon is not the focus of the club, the riding skills you will learn through the club are valuable to any rider. For safety reasons, please DO NOT ride in your aero bars when riding in a group.
